President’s Office
Greetings from President Evan Dobelle.

A complete university experience, a classic New England setting, a cohesive and creative community: that's Westfield State University.
As president, I'm especially inspired by the Westfield State University spirit of community. That spirit arises from a collective understanding of our mission: commitment to teaching, to student involvement in the life of the university and the community, and to social responsibility.
That mission, in turn, is deeply rooted in a groundbreaking history. Westfield State University, distinguished since its founding in 1838, began as the first, public, coeducational teachers college in the nation, founded upon the concept of education as opportunity. As Westfield State has evolved into the comprehensive university it is today, that tradition of opportunity, aspiration, and transformation continues to energize our faculty and students. We're ready to share that tradition with you.
Discover how we explore new perspectives and form new connections. Learn how our graduates are finding new avenues for leadership and fulfillment every day. Understand how Westfield State University is a tremendous resource for the region: cultivating partnerships and contributing to cultural, environmental, and economic vitality.
That's the Westfield State University that inspires me. I hope you find inspiration here, too.
Evan S. Dobelle
