What are our Graduates Doing?

The English major can lead to a number of career options. Here's a small sample of what some of our graduates have accomplished:

  • an attorney in the business division of Robinson & Cole
  • the editor at Massachusetts General Hospital
  • the managing editor of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology
  • the recipient of the Grinspoon teaching award
  • a middle school teacher in Southwick, MA
  • the media project manager at Pearson Education
  • the electronic communications manager in the admissions office at Bay Path College
  • pursued an MA in communications and information management at Bay Path College
  • editorial project manager at Focal Press
  • pursued a PhD in English literature at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland
  • won the 2011 Connecticut Poetry Award for her poem "Boundary."
  • full-time writer for Aetna
  • worked at Charlesbridge Publishing
  • pursued an MA in Children's Literature at Simmons College
  • completed an MFA in Creative Writing at Indiana University
  • 2010 winner of the Vera Meyer Strube Poetry Prize by the Academy of American Poets
  • pursuing an MA in Composition and Rhetoric at UMASS Boston
  • pursuing a PhD at the University of Washington


As you can see, after graduating, our students go on to become teachers, writers, editors, project managers, reporters, and policy makers, among many other professions, and many also pursue MFAs and PhDs at leading universities.  Our writers go on to careers in journalism, creative writing, editing, public relations and marketing writing, and other corporate communications roles.
