I am on the Board of the Friends of the Colombia Greenway, Westfield MA, working to make Westfield more bicycle and pedestrian friendly, and to facilitate the development of a 3.5 mile bikeway on an elevated rail bed that travels through downtown Westfield.
I wrote a report on Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) as part of a growth study for extending commuter rail service in southeastern Massachusetts.
S.T.A.R.S. Research Award, Westfield State University. With a WSU Semester Time Award for Research and Scholarship (S.T.A.R.S.) spring 2010 grant award, conducted research work on public participation in land use decision making in rural western Kenya. Working with a parastatal agency, Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI), and living for 3 months on a college campus in Kenya, I conducted an evaluation of the public participation component of a 5 year, 5 million dollar World Bank funded program. The program, Western Kenya Integrated Environmental Management Program (WKIEMP) focused on working with subsistence farmers on best management practices. Using focus groups, staff reflection, and group self-evaluations, a qualitative assessment was prepared for the use of the agency. Publications based on this work (to date) include:
