Galina Gertsenzon, WSU piano faculty since 1983, holds diplomas of B.M. from Baku Music College in Azerbaijan and M.M. from the Gorky State Conservatory in Russia. She has over 40 years of college-level teaching experience at institutions such as the Baku College of Music, UMASS at Amherst, Smith College, The Elms College and presently at Westfield State University.
Mrs. Gertsenzon’s performances include solo concerts with The Baku Symphony Orchestra, Gorky Symphony Orchestra, and others. She has also performed numerous solo and chamber programs, including The Westwind Quintet and other chamber groups, The Old First Church Music Series, Longmeadow Chamber Society, Westfield State Concert Series, etc. She has performed with a number of prominent musicians in the area, including Peter Demos, Marsha Harbison, Perry Morris, Margot Rowland, and many more.
Music competitions winner herself, Mrs Gertsenzon has had over 80 award-winning students at the state, national and international levels (both in Russia and America). She has given numerous master classes and is a frequent judge at piano competitions, including Hartt School of Music, Connecticut Music Teachers Association, Junior League of Springfield, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Westfield State University, New England Young Performers competition in Newton and others. She is an active member of Music Teachers National Association, the Advisory Board of the Junior Extension of the Tuesday Morning Music Club, and is included in Who’s Who of Musicians and Who is Who of American Women.
