Developing and Proposing Short-Term Courses

Westfield State University welcomes Short-Term Course Proposals for the 2019 – 2021 academic years

The mission of the International Programs office at Westfield State University is to develop academically-oriented, quality global initiatives which allow students, faculty and staff to engage the world, both internationally and domestically, through study abroad and study away, international research, institutional partnerships, and curricular development.  The university’s Short-Term courses are an innovative part of that program, and offer Westfield faculty the opportunity to teach and conduct research in an area of the world in which they have passion.  They also offer Westfield students the opportunity to earn credit in an affordable way while experiencing another country, culture, language, or location outside of the Westfield campus.
The benefits of Westfield Faculty-Led Short-Term programs:

  • significantly enhances one's teaching, research, and service;
  • development in global competencies for faculty and  students;
  • affords an opportunity to connect with students in a more meaningful way;
  • adds Global Diversity objectives to your course;
  • adds Experiential Learning objectives to your course;
  • can add Civic Engagement or Service Learning objectives to your course;
  • can add Social Justice objectives to your course;
  • affords you an opportunity to give your students the benefit of studying in the World Outside of Westfield, and to expose them to different cultures, sights, sounds, languages, foods, music, art and architecture;
  • provides a fully-supported method for faculty to travel and conduct academic work abroad.
