The Westfield State Foundation at Westfield State University has established the Baystate Health Scholarship for Nursing.

The scholarship is made possible by the generosity of Baystate Health System, a partner with the University’s Nursing Department.

Sarina Gallant, a graduating senior from East Longmeadow, was selected as the first recipient of the award. Both announcements were made at Westfield State’s annual Nursing Pinning ceremony on May 15.

“Westfield State is so pleased to partner with Baystate Health System to advance the education, training, and employment of our nursing students and alumni. The establishment of this award to support our graduating students is most appreciated,” said Marcia Scanlon, D.N.P, chair of the Westfield State Nursing and Allied Health Department.

Gallant also served as the nursing class speaker at the May 15 ceremony.

The recipient of the competitive award was selected among graduates employed by Baystate Health Systems that demonstrate strength of academic record and nursing philosophy consistent with BHS’s mission and values. The award was presented at the ceremony by Julie Racicot, of Baystate Noble’s professional development office.

“Westfield State University is proud to graduate another class of graduates with a Bachelor of Science in nursing to address the need for quality healthcare providers in the area,” said Ramon S. Torrecilha, Ph.D., president of Westfield State University. “The newly established scholarship ensures even greater support for our talented and skilled graduates.”
