TEACHING AMERICAN HISTORY (TAH) MENTOR PROGRAM

Teacher and StudentGoals of the Teaching American History Mentor Program

  1. Train a cohort of TAH participants in mentoring
  2. Work collaboratively with districts to support this cohort as resources in their schools in the practice of Teaching American History
Guidelines
  • Participants will be working closely with their districts.
  • Cohort group will be comprised of representatives from elementary, middle and high school.
  • Mentors will work with districts to define the role of the TAH mentor/leader early in the school year.
  • Mentors will need to submit a mentor/leadership plan for the year by September 30, 2010.
  • Mentors will revisit and reflect on mentor/leadership plan during forums and submit at the end of the program year, a reflection of their year as a TAH mentor/leader.
Components
  • 2 Full day Foundations in Mentoring Training led by New Teachers Center from Santa Cruz, CA.
  • 4 Mentor Forums at the CENTER (2 hour sessions)
    • Forum #1 and #2: Two-Part Book Discussion Group
    • Forum #3: Directed Lesson Study
    • Forum #4: Primary Source Share 2
  • Mentor Trips
    • Springfield Armory
    • Boston Museum of African American History
  • Participation in an online forum (minimum of 10 entries on forum)
  • Two-three page reflection paper about your experience as a TAH mentor/leader due May 30, 2011
