Facebook is a social networking website that connects people with others. Users must register to use the site (no charge), after which they may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, pictures, and other notifications. As of February 2012, Facebook has more than 845 million active users.
The user’s public information (name, profile picture, gender, username, user ID, and networks) are visible to all Facebook users. Only the user and friends can post to a Wall (timeline). Access to profile and posted information is controlled by using the audience selector. Visibility when friends post is determined by Wall (timeline) privacy setting selection.
