Skype is a service that allows users to communicate with each other by voice, video, and instant messaging over the Internet. Calls to other users within the Skype service are free of charge, while calls to landline or mobile telephones are charged to a user account. Apps are available for iOS, Android, and BlackBerry mobile devices; a beta version for Windows phones has been introduced in early 2012.

Skype is owned by Microsoft and has 680 million registered users as of February 2012.
