Commencement - Frequently Asked Questions

Commencement Questions:  May 18, 2019

Are tickets required? Graduating students do not need tickets. All guests will need a ticket to enter the MassMutual Center. Graduates may request 1-4 tickets through an online process in April. At the same time, students may submit for an additional ticket, should a lottery become available. Due to the fixed number of seats and the large graduating class, we will be unable to provide additional tickets. Tickets can be picked up at the Ely Campus Center Service Window or at Will Call beginning at 2:30 pm on the day of Commencement at the MassMutual Center.

Do I need tickets for children?  Small children who will sit in your lap do not need a ticket.

How long is the ceremony?  The Commencement exercises will last approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. We request graduating students and their guests remain for the entire ceremony out of respect for all of our graduates.

Will refreshments be available?  Yes, the MassMutual Center will have drinks and food available for purchase before and during the ceremony.  Outside food and drink are not permitted.

Where do guests enter the MassMutual Center?  Guests will enter at the Box Office located on Bruce Landon Way between Main Street and Dwight Street  directly across from the parking garage. An elevator is located at this entrance and wheelchairs will be available.

What time should guests arrive at the Center?  It is recommended that guests allow ample time to secure parking. The doors will open between 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

What time should graduates arrive at the Center?  Graduates should plan to arrive for robing and processional between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Remember, there is no secure storage for valuables.

Can I bring balloons and noise makers?  Sorry, no, the facility does not allow these items.

Do I receive my diploma at Commencement ? No, you will receive a diploma jacket as you approach the stage. Actual diplomas will be mailed after the ceremony.

Is the MassMutual Center accessible?  Yes, the Center is fully accessible. We want all of our guest to have an opportunity to enjoy this special event. If you or a guest have special needs, please contact the MassMutual Center (413) 271-3257

We will have reserved seating and the services of an interpreter. The MassMutual Center will provide Assisted Listening Devices (ALD’s) upon request. Please call them at (413) 787-6610 to arrange for an ALD two days prior to the event.
