


Steve Sonntag currently teaches Jazz History and Jazz Trumpet at Westfield State University.
He has performed with a wide variety of artists including singers Nancy Wilson, Helen O’Connell and Bobby Rydell, entertainers Carol Channing, Jim Nabors and Florence Henderson and Rock/Pop/Soul legends The Coasters, The Temptations and Levon Helm. He has worked with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, toured with Guy Lombardo’s Royal Canadians and was a staff musician aboard the
SS Norway. He was a long time member of the Jeff Holmes Big Band and the Amherst Jazz Orchestra, performing with Peter Erskine, Ernie Watts, John Abercrombie, Rufus Reid, John Fedchock, Conrad Herwig and Yusef Lateef.
He is an active composer, trumpeter and flugelhornist, working and recording with a variety of New England based bands. He can be heard on his own CD titled ‘Not A Day Goes By’ and on a CD by the Steve Sonntag Dave Shapiro Sextet titled ‘Monk, Duke & Mingus’.
He currently works with the Peter Miles Band and the Fiction Giants, as well as his own jazz group.
He previously taught at the University of Massachusetts.
