Almost Sunrise: Film Screening

April 25, 6 p.m.
Dever Stage, Parenzo Hall
Free and open to the public

Almost Sunrise is a film about two young Iraq war veterans who embark on an extraordinary journey—a 2,700 mile trek on foot across America--to come to terms with their experience and bridge the wide cultural gap between veterans and civilians in the US.

The film specifically explores the concepts of moral injury, suicide prevention and mental health, and uncovers paths to healing and reconnection for veterans reentering civilian life.

The film will be followed by a panel discussion and dialogue, which can benefit both veterans and others who wish to learn more about healing and recovery.

Here are some facts (based on the U.S. population):

  • About 7 or 8 out of every 100 people (or 7-8% of the population) will have PTSD at some point in their lives.
  • About 8 million adults have PTSD during a given year. This is only a small portion of those who have gone through a trauma.
  • About 10 of every 100 women (or 10%) develop PTSD sometime in their lives compared with about 4 of every 100 men (or 4%).
