— Following a comprehensive national search, Daniel B. Forster ’16G has been named as Westfield State University’s new vice president for Enrollment Management. Forster will report to President Dr. Ramon S. Torrecilha and will oversee admissions, financial aid and marketing at the university. Forster will assume his new role at Westfield State on April 1.

According to Torrecilha, Forster’s hiring is a homecoming of sorts, as he has deep roots in western Massachusetts and is an alumnus of Westfield State, where he worked for nine years earlier in his career. Forster currently serves as vice president of Enrollment Management at Washington College in Maryland.

“We are so proud to welcome back Dan to Westfield State in this new capacity to lead the university’s critical efforts related to recruiting and retaining students,” said Torrecilha. “Dan’s institutional familiarity coupled with his progressive financial aid and enrollment management experience gained over the last 20 years make him the ideal candidate to fulfill this important vice presidential role.”

As vice president for Enrollment Management at Westfield State, Forster will provide leadership and support in advancing the overall enrollment goals. In addition to developing and implementing a comprehensive enrollment management plan, Forster, as a member of the president’s cabinet, will collaborate with other senior administrators on strategic planning across the institution.

“Among a very impressive candidate pool, Dan’s experience, skill set and ability to easily engage with all campus groups stood out, making him the natural selection for our next vice president for Enrollment Management,” added Torrecilha.

Forster served as Westfield State’s assistant director of Student Administrative Services from 1997 to 2002. He also served as a drug prevention coordinator and resident director prior to that assistant director role.

Following his tenure at Westfield State, Forster worked for Sallie Mae Inc. in addition to serving influential roles for Wheelock College and Simmons College in Boston. At Wheelock, he served as director of Financial Aid, while at Sallie Mae Inc., Forster served as a higher education sales executive. At Simmons, he served as chief financial aid officer and director of Student Financial Services before being promoted to assistant vice president for Enrollment Management.

“I look forward to leading Westfield State’s enrollment efforts to the next level,” said Forster. “I am eager to marry my background in public and private higher education with Westfield State’s mission to develop market-smart enrollment initiatives and to further strengthen the university’s re-energized focus on student success and retention.”

Forster attained his bachelor degree in Journalism/History from University of Massachusetts Amherst and his master’s degree in Education (History) from Westfield State.

His professional affiliations include work as the Professional Training and Development Committee chairperson and as an executive board member for the Massachusetts Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators; a member of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators; a SALT Advisory Board Member for American Student Assistance; and a consultant and presenter for the Massachusetts Educational Finance Authority.
