Westfield State appoints Dr. Jalisa D. Williams as assistant vice president of Human Resources

WESTFIELD—Following a comprehensive search, Westfield State University has appointed Jalisa D. Williams, LP.D., as assistant vice president of Human Resources. Dr. Williams reports to Stephen Taksar, vice president, Administration & Finance, and oversees the University’s Human Resources policies and procedures, as well as the recruitment, training, professional development, and evaluation of employees. She began at the university in November.

Dr. Williams has held progressive positions in human resources, diversity, and inclusion throughout her career and most recently served as executive director of Human Resources at Schenectady County Community College (SCCC) in New York.

“The extensive experience in and dedication to the practice of human resources that Dr. Williams brings to the position will serve Westfield State and its faculty, administration, and staff well,” said Taksar. “Her commitment to service and active regional involvement among her professional peers will help to guide the University as we support our greatest resources—its  employees.”

Dr. Williams has more than 15 years of experience in human resources and administration management, also having worked in the field at the Research Foundation for the State University of New York, as the corporate human resources administrator, and the diversity and inclusion manager and Affirmative Action Officer that the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. Prior to that, she worked in a variety of government positions for the State of New York.

Her current professional affiliations include memberships with the National Association of Professional Women, Society of Human Resources Management, College and University Professional Association for Human Resources, Society for Diversity, and Capital Region Human Resources Association.

She holds a doctorate from Northeastern University’s School of Law and Policy, a certification in management development studies from Cornell University, and a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in human resources and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The Sage Colleges in Albany, NY.
