Westfield State celebrates, honors Latinx Heritage Month

WESTFIELD—In honor of Latinx Heritage Month, Westfield State University’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion, in partnership with the Latino Association for Empowerment, has planned a month of events celebrating Latin culture through October 18.

The month features movie screenings, discussions, and demonstrations. Each year’s celebration of Latinx Heritage Month is themed in accordance with current events. This year’s theme is “Rompiendo las barreras” (breaking barriers).

“Breaking barriers is a response to the nation’s climate and view of Latino people,” said LAFE member Arielyss Santiago ’18 of Fitchburg, Mass. “The theme also embodies how beautiful and accepting Latino culture and people are.”
