Westfield State University dean elected to Massachusetts Library System’s executive board

Westfield State University Dean of Academic Information Services and Director of Ely Library Thomas Raffensperger has been elected to the executive board of the Massachusetts Library System (MLS).

Raffensperger has served in his position as dean at Westfield State for eight years. Prior to joining the University, he worked as an assistant university librarian for public services at Portland State University and the library director at Matanuska-Sustina College at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Raffensperger earned a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Hawaii at Manao. He is an active member of the American Library Association, the Association of College and Research Libraries and the New England Library Association.

The MLS provides services to approximately 1,600 various Massachusetts libraries throughout the Commonwealth. A state-supported collaborative, the MLS fosters cooperation, communication, innovation, and sharing among member libraries of all types, promoting equitable access to library services and resources for all who live, work, or study in Massachusetts.

“MLS executive board members lead the Commonwealth in their advocacy for libraries, library services and their patrons,” said Westfield State Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Diane Prusank, Ph.D. “We are proud to have Dean Raffensperger serve in this capacity and we are privileged to benefit from his experience and expertise on campus.”

Raffensperger’s three-year term on the executive board will begin January 2020.
