Sustainability

Westfield State recognizes that it exists as part of a larger world community that is impacted by personal and institutional choices. Westfield strives to be a model of stewardship for the environment by incorporating sustainability into the operations of the College and the daily life of the campus community.

President Dobelle reminds us to be a resource for the region’s sustainability efforts.  Our academic community does not just co-exist with the local communities, but collaborates with them. Higher education can and should be involved in community and economic development.  That means green leadership: educating about how sustainability and economic development can go hand in hand.

Westfield State works across all departments campus-wide to improve and shore up environmental friendliness.  We focus on:

  • designing sustainable academic practices
  • sustainably preferable purchasing
  • sustainable planning, operations and design
  • faculty and curriculum development

Westfield State, as an academic institution, has the power to lead by exercising our role in training future leaders, teachers and other professionals to be responsible citizens aware of sustainability in an increasingly complex world.
