ResNet Registration

All devices whether connected via Ethernet or Wifi require registration with our Network Sentry system. Windows and Apple based computers may be registered before your arrival on campus. Note that smart phones, tablets, and gaming devices cannot be registered until you arrive on campus. The registration process is documented below.

Desktop and Laptop Computers, Smart Phones, iPads, Microsoft Surface devices, and Android-based tablets

Before you start the registration process:

  1. Please make sure you are running a supported version of your Operating System.
    • Windows-based computers need to be Windows 8 or newer.
    • Macintosh-based computers need to be macOS Mojave (10.14) or newer.
  2. Ensure all updates to your supported operating system is up-to-date.
  3. Ensure your anti-virus product is up-to-date.

Before you register a phone or tablet please turn off MAC Address Randomization (or Wifi Privacy). If you do not disable this feature you will be prompted to register your phone or tablet each time it connects to resnet.

From on campus:
1) Connect your device via either Ethernet or via the 'resnet' wireless network. Ethernet jacks in your room are either white or black if you have a wall plate. If you have a Cisco device in your room they are on the bottom of the device.
2) Open a web browser and attempt to browse to any website. You will be redirected to the registration portal. Select the first option.

5) If you are registering a Windows or Apple based computer, you will be prompted to download a registration agent. Download and run the application.

7) You may be prompted to enter your username and password on the next screen, if so enter your campus username and password again.

8) The program will scan your computer for compliance. If the scanner fails you may need to run Windows or Mac OS X operating system updates, or update your anti-virus definitions depending on the reason shown. If you have an expired anti-virus program on your computer, you will need to uninstall it. The failure pages will include links to where you can install free anti-virus programs that are available if you do not have anti-virus software or if you have an expired one that you do not wish to renew. If you need any assistance with remediating these issues, you may visit the Technology Support Desk in Ely Library.

9) After correcting any anti-virus or operating system updates needed, please revisit the registration page and re-run the scanner. If the scanner still fails and you are certain you are running an updated anti-virus program, please visit the Technology Support Desk for assistance.
