Urban Education Program
Urban Education
The Urban Education Program (UEP) at Westfield State is dedicated to the growth of confident, capable individuals. When timely support and encouragement is provided to students who have inner motivation and desire to succeed, their chances for academic success are greatly enhanced. This philosophy lies at the heart of the Urban Education Program.
The Urban Education Program begins during the summer after graduation from high school. First year students are accepted into the University on a conditional basis and must complete a five-week “Bridge” program to gain full matriculation. The “bridge” experience includes intensive academic instruction and leadership development through peer-mentorship. The importance of civic responsibility and networking opportunities is introduced to program students by UEP staff, UEP alumni and student leaders. Students are enrolled in a variety of courses in the summer that have included including Music, Mathematics, Astronomy, Symbolic Logic and English Writing Workshops.
