Institute of Homeland Security

Our mission is to offer a program that is recognized nationally and internationally as an "institute of excellence" for innovative, intra-and inter-disciplinary research and study, addressing issues of homeland security.

Our philosophy is predicated upon recognition that knowledge in homeland security and its related issues are an essential prerequisite for the construction of sound decision-making. Therefore, the Institute believes that current and future practitioners must be educated and informed so as to have a deeper understanding of the threats confronting the United States.

Our vision is to become the regional authority on homeland security/law enforcement education and training; emphasizing applied programming and applied knowledge. To this end, we have adopted as our guiding principle:

"Action from Knowledge. Forging connections between knowledge development and its application in the workplace"

In light of the events of 9/11 and other such incidences, homeland security education has become a high priority. It is viewed from a human resources perspective as added value in many occupations, including but not limited to: the police, firefighters, private and public utility companies, facilities management professionals (critical infrastructure), office managers, emergency medical personnel, hazmat technicians, federal security personnel and a host of others.

In-service, career-oriented education has never been more important

In the current global environment, the demand for those with expertise in homeland security and disaster management is growing rapidly.
