ADMISSIONS ADVICE:
"Before you begin your college search, talk with your guidance counselor, teacher or coach.  Focus on your needs, including your short and long-term academic goals, your learning style, and your values.  Once you answer these questions, research and create a list of potential institutions that best fit your profile and are financially feasible.  Be sure to visit the campuses, speak with students, faculty and staff to learn more about the college and campus life.  Keep in mind, this is a journey and don’t be afraid to ask for help along the way."

“Keep the password you create for your online applications in a safe place.  Most colleges, including Westfield, allow you to track the progress of your online application as long as you have the correct password.”

ADMISSIONS ADVICE:
“Massachusetts community college students who plan to transfer to Westfield should speak to their advisors before applying to determine for which among the several statewide transfer programs they may be eligible. The Commonwealth Transfer Compact, Joint Admissions Program, Tuition Advantage Program (TAP), MassTransfer Block, and MassTransfer Program each offer different benefits to students, and qualifying terms of each program vary, as well.  We want to make sure you maximize your program benefits upon transfer.  Careful planning prior to submitting an admission application is an important step in the process.”

ADMISSIONS ADVICE:
“Be organized and pay attention to deadlines. Know what is required for each college you are applying to and send it in as soon as you are able. Colleges will not make a decision until all required materials are received and you don’t want to miss out by missing a deadline.”

ADMISSIONS ADVICE:
"Submit your college applications early.  By waiting until the last minute, you may end up rushing through the application or forgetting to send important information to colleges.  By applying early, you have time to proofread your application, include all supporting documents, and then submit your application in a timely manner.  You can also minimize the stress of applying to colleges if you are well ahead of all deadlines."

ADMISSIONS ADVICE:
“Don’t feel as though you need to commit to a major before applying to a school; being undecided is absolutely OK.    One of the purposes of higher education is to help you figure that part out .  The average student is expected to change their major several times throughout their college career, so it’s natural to be unsure of what you want to do directly after high school.  Apply to the schools that you’re interested in anyway as undeclared; most schools will give you until the end of your sophomore year to declare a major.”
