Course Assignments

Each of you will be required to complete four primary assignments throughout the semester.

1. Interactive Lesson Plan: consists of two parts. (23%)
A. (Lesson Plan) In groups of two or three, develop a student-centered lesson that includes, in part, activities that require students to interact with a web site. The web site chosen should be engaging, student friendly, and allow students to manipulate materials found (more than just reading and answering questions on paper). Please do not hand in an existing lesson found on-line. Be creative and take advantage of this time to explore and take some risks. Please remember to follow the lesson plan format provided on this course web site. Also, please list the web sites used under Instructional Materials and to hand in all materials/handouts utilized in the lesson. Finally, you should include a handout for students that guide their online time and can be utilized to help evaluate student learning.

B. (Rubric) Attach Project Rubric including group names.

Project Rubric.

2. Class Web Site: (23%)
Working in groups of two or three, you will develop a Class Web Site of your own. This should be a welcoming site for students, parents and the community. Included in this web site should be:

  1. A brief introduction of what will be found at your site, including a statement of your views on the use of technology/Internet in education.
  2. Your pictures and background information.
  3. At least one graphic background.
  4. A page of kid-friendly resources that includes at least seven linked web sites. Included should be a brief review of each of the linked sites so viewers will know what they will be linked to.
  5. A page of teacher resources that includes at least seven linked web sites. Included should be a brief review of each of the linked sites so viewers will know what they will be linked to.
  6. A page of parent/guardian resources that includes at least seven linked web sites. Included should be a brief review of each of the linked sites so viewers will know what they will be linked to.
  7. A listing of your own lesson plan(s) developed in this class.
  8. At least three more pages of your choice.
  9. Anything else you want to include.
  10. Remember to take a look at previous class web sites for ideas.
  11. Think carefully about navigation for your site.
  12. Make this a fun, welcoming site.

3. Ozobot Project: (23%)
Write a creative story that includes a hero (your ozobot), a villain(s) and at least one other character. Your story will have your hero moving from place to place, encountering various obstacles, solving small problems and finally coming to a conclusion.

Along the way, your hero will need to utilize various movements and speed changes which reflect the action/challenges of your story.

You should include at least:

Once completed, make a video that includes your hero following along your narrated story.

Please note:

Bonus:
Include more than one ozobot.

4. Student Choice Project: (23%)
Please choose one of the three possible projects below for your fourth assignment.

4A. App Based Interactive Lesson
Develop a student-centered lesson that incorporates the use of the Toontastic App. The topic of the lesson and age are up to you. You can assume that your students already know how to use the App., therefore your lesson topic should not include Toontastic. However, your lesson should require students to take full advantage of the application.  Be creative!!!

As part of your evaluation, you should create a finished project that is reflective of your vision for and requirements for the assignment.  Please remember to follow the lesson plan format provided on this course website. Also, please cite appropriately the application title and any other materials used under Instructional Materials.

  1. See handout for project details.
  2. See assignment rubric (on website) for evaluation standards.

4B. 60-120 Second Digital, Public Service Announcement
Develop a student-centered lesson that incorporates the use of a video application such as imovie.  You can assume that your students already know how to use the video editing software, therefore your lesson topic should not include the editing tools. However, your lesson should require students to take full advantage of the application.  Be creative!!!

You will choose a topic to investigate (this will be the focus of your lesson) concerning young people and gather information that could be used in a public service announcement. You will then create a script, film, and edit your work. Edited work should include transitions, sound, and the use of titles/text. The PSA can include video, still pictures, or both. If only still pictures are used, please bring “movement” to some of them through editing techniques.

Please remember to follow the lesson plan format provided on this course website. Also, please cite appropriately the application title and any other materials used under Instructional Materials. Lastly, please create a rubric you will use to help identify that each component of your required PSA assignment is included.

Please also include all references and credits in the credit section at the end of video.

See attached rubric for further details.

4C. Interactive, Question & Answer Web Site
A. Similar to the website we utilized in class that had us travel from the East Coast to the West Coast, you will create your own site. Included will be questions and possible answers that will direct students from one question to another. Also, links will be included that allow for further exploration of the different locations/topics within the site.

  1. Look at examples from previous classes to get ideas what has already been done.
  2. There should be at least seven different pages included.
  3. Remember to change link color & name pages so that answers are not visible.

B. Create a lesson that includes the use of the website created. This can be a very focused lesson or one that is open ended. It can be a one day or multi-day lesson. Remember to utilize our class lesson plan and link the created lesson to your created website.

See attached rubric for further detail.

4D. Ozobot Space Lesson

With the Ozobot at the center of your lesson assessment, write a lesson plan that focuses on the solar system (or some other space related focus). Your LP should include science activities that explore the content associated with the solar system. For example, you might look at various facts about a specific planet or planets. Or, you might wish to explore orbital lengths and distances. The choice of focus is yours and should be addressed in your LP.  Please note that you can assume your student know how to use color codes to control their “bot”.  You do not need to teach them how to do this in your lesson. Again, your lesson should focus on content, not on the Ozobot.

As your assessment, you should require students to utilize the Ozobot to highlight what they have learned in a creative way.   The details are up to you as the teacher. Further, you should create a rubric that will be used to help evaluate the finished products.

You as the teacher, too should provide a completed example of the assignment. This should include a written narrative (including bot movements) and be videoed and uploaded to YouTube.

Please remember to follow our class lesson plan format.

See attached Rubric for firther detail.
