Homework Help

Stumped on your homework? Stuck on that one tricky question? You've come to the right place!!

Week of 10/15 to 10/19

MATH: Unit 2, Week 3- Measurement & the Metric System

Due Friday: Worksheet number 2.3

TIP: Remember that the metric system is all based on tens, so depending on what you're converting, you're either multiplying by 10 [or 100 or 1000] or dividing by 10 [or 100 or 1000]. What do you change about the number when multiplying or dividing by 10?

TIP: Sometimes, visualizing the amount you get for an answer will help you figure out whether it makes sense. One gram is about the mass of an M&M, but one kilogram is about the mass of a medium cantaloupe. Similarly, one centimeter is about the width of your pinky finger, but one kilometer is about the distance from Buckley School to Town Hall.

TIP: Remember the stairs handout I gave you with the prefixes? Those are incredibly helpful for determining how much to multiply by. For example, if you need to go up, you divide. If you go down, you multiply. The number of steps is the number of times you multiply or divide by 10. [For example, if you need to go up two steps, then you divide by 100. If you need to go down three steps, you multiply by 1000.]

And remember, ALWAYS include the correct unit with your answer!

ELA: Unit 2, Week 1- Different Forms of Writing

Due Friday: At Least 3 Ideas Each for your Narrative, Persuasive, Descriptive, and Expository Essays

TIP: Keep in mind, descriptive essays explain how to do something. Pick something you can do really well, something you'd feel comfortable teaching another person how to do.

TIP: Expository essays explain what something is and important characteristics about it. Pick something you know really well, or something you would like to learn more about. You will need to do research for this essay, so it's okay if you don't know much about it right now.

TIP: Remember that narrative essays are a story about your own life. Pick an event that brought out a certain emotion- the emotion itself is up to you.

TIP: Your persuasive essay will be about an issue of your choice, your opinion on it, and why it's important to you. The goal is to convince other people of what you believe. Pick an opinion about something important to you. [e.g. "We should have a school garden because..."; "Graphic novels are better than regular novels because..."] You don't have to write more after the "because..." part just yet- that will be in your outline and essay.

*** Remember, all homework is due Friday. You will not be able to earn a check-plus on homework turned in more than two days late, and I will not accept homework that is over a week late. Remember also that you can get extra credit with up to three guesses for "Where In The World is Mx. Delude?"
