Farming Challenge Unit Topic: Modern farming in America Importance of lesson: It is important for students to understand where the food they eat comes from, and how America cultivates, grows, and raises the food we consume. It also allows students to see the different treatments that are used for farming, and how it affects the product. Objectives:
Instructional Technique: Will start with the whole class, but then divide into individual work. Procedure: 1. The introduction will be a series of notes on farming, and the different techniques that are used, this activity will be used to help students understand the many techniques farmers use to create a successful farm in modern America. 2. Start as a whole class with the soy bean farming option, and as a group to choose the options to create a soybean farm and discovering the outcomes of our choices. 3. Students will then work independently on the dairy farm option and choose the correct options to create their own dairy dorm. 4. While working on the website, students will complete the handout, which documents the options they choose, and explains the answers they chose, and what the outcome was. 5. For students who may have learning difficulties, headphones can be provided so they can listen to the audio instead of reading the text, and there is a transcript of the audio so students can also read what is being said. 6. For homework students will explore the cotton farm option of the website. Instructional Materials:
