Mississippi River

Grade: 4

·  Lesson Topic or Theme: Mississippi River

·  Lesson Objectives: -The student will be able to pinpoint the origin of the Mississippi    River

                                    -The student will be able to trace the course of the Mississippi   River

                                    -Students will be able to name states adjacent to Mississippi River

                                    -Students will be familiar with wildlife of the Mississippi River

·  Instructional Technique: Students will work on website quiz with one partner.

·  Instructional Materials: Students will need one computer per group of two students.

                                              Students will also need one fact sheet

·  Theoretical Perspective: It is important for students to be familiar with the geography of the United States. A dominant feature and a key land mark in the development of our country was the Mississippi River. It is important students know the location of this river along with the facts and history surrounding it.

·  Procedure:

·         Students will be separated into groups.

·         Students will complete Kayak Kyle Mississippi River Challenge, filling out the follow up questions as they do.

·         Students must visit the supporting websites.

·         Students will select one aspect of the Mississippi River to present to the class

Evaluation

            Students will pass it follow up work sheets. Students with completed sheets will receive a check; students with incomplete worksheets will receive an incomplete for the day’s assignment.
