Lesson PlanLesson Topic: World Geography
Lesson Objectives: The
students will be traveling the world going to different continents.
They must be able to answer questions based on the clues that they are
given. They should be able to locate where they are by determining what
geographic monuments and features are given to them.
Instructional technique: The
teachers will ask the students what continents are. They will see how
much the students know before the lesson. Once we have gathered how
much knowledge the students have about continents we will go over where
the continents are on the globe. We will hand out two sheets of paper
as well. One will have lyrics to a song that helps to remember the
names of the 7 continents and the other is a sheet that has the seven
continents on it. The students will read the paper with the lyrics on
it and learn the song together as a class. They will then color in the
sheet with the continents on them (they can color code them however
they want). After the students have learned the continents we will do
an overview of what countries are in each to familiarize them with it.
We will then introduce them to the website.
Instructional materials: 2 worksheets
Theoretical perspective: It
is important for students to learn about the continents because it
helps them narrow things down geographically. Continents play a large
role in physical, cultural and economic characteristics of places. It’s
learning about diversity and how parts of the world differ from one
another. Each continent is unique in its own way. They all have
different history, climates, wildlife and monumental features. It is
important for a student to be able to differ which continent is which
after being given certain information.
Procedure:
Introductory activity- The introductory activities are the class discussion, the worksheet (blank map) and the song.
It familiarizes the students with what continents are and although they
already have a background in the subject it refreshes and answers any
questions that they have.
Step by step-
we will bring the students into the computer lab and using the over
head show them what to click on to get to the site. We will do the
first page with them so that they understand how the website works.
Then they will be on their own, the teachers will be walking around to
make sure the students are staying on track and to answer the questions
any students may have. Once completed we will ask the students what
they liked about the site, if it helped them and ask them if they have
any questions or comments.
Adaptations for different learners- the teachers will be walking around to help the students if they have any questions.
Evaluation:
We
will determine how well the students did by going around and checking
their computers when they are done. Also how fast a student finishes
will show how knowledgeable the student is, because the faster they
finish means the less times they had to go back and re-do a question.
