Theoretical Perspective:

Learning about fractions is very important because it helps students to be able to measure and compare things. It helps them to understand the meaning of both the numerator and the denominator and what they represent. Fractions are used in everyday life, so it is crucial for students to be able to identify them, understand them and their importance in mathematics.

Procedure:

Teacher will lecture students about fractions. The class will go over a quick review of what they know about fractions from the previous year. Notes and vocabulary will be given. Students will be responsible for taking down this information in their notebooks.

Teacher will instruct students to individually go onto the website: “Sweetie’s Fraction Bakery” and complete the web activity.

Students will be provided with a worksheet that goes along with the web activity. They will be expected to write out their work that corresponds with the activity to show how they got their answers.

At the end of the web activity, students will let the teacher know when they have finished and will turn in their worksheet. This worksheet will be looked over by the teacher and each student will get a check if the assignment is complete with the written out work.

Adaptations

The website is not timed so the student can spend as long as they would like exploring the different resources we provided with the given links on the incorrect answer pages.

This website also lets you have as many guesses to the questions given, allowing the students to be able to explore the right and wrong answers and understand the concepts behind the correct answers.

Evaluations:

A. How/ when will you determine if you have met your objectives?

While the students are on the website, the teacher will walk around to make sure each student is completing the activity. After the students complete the worksheet that goes along with the website activity, they will hand it in to the teacher. With the completed worksheet the teacher will be able to tell whether the students have grasped some of the basic concepts of fractions.

B. Concerns or questions you have about teaching this lesson?

Some students may have trouble understanding some of the concepts of adding and subtracting and common denominators. We hope that the links we give on the pages with the wrong answers will clear up some of the confusion.
