Theoretical
Perspective:
Understanding the Lewis and
Clark expedition is important for understanding how America
became the fully developed land it is today.
Procedure:
a. Intro-
In our previous history
lessons the students have been introduced to how America was
first founded on the East Coast. In this 2-day lesson the
students will learn the stepping stones of westward expansion,
the expedition of Lewis and Clark.
b. Step by step-
DAY
ONE
1. The
teacher
will gather the classes attention, asking them to get a laptop
from the school laptop cart.
2. The
teacher
will instruct the students to go to the National Geographic
website that will written on the chalkboard.
3. As
class
we will start discussing the Lewis and Clark journey, starting
with where it started and working our way through the map.
4. As
the
students go along the teacher will add bits of information about
the Lewis and Clark adventure, the students should take notes on
what the teacher says, as this will be used later.
5. Once
the
teacher completes the guided tour of the Lewis and Clark route
the students will be asked to trace bits the route on a blank
map of the U.S. This will be a projection that is shined on the
whiteboard.
6. Each
student
will be asked to provide a piece of information about the
expedition.
7. Class
will
end, the teacher will tell the students to keep there notes safe
and study them for homework.
DAY TWO:
1. The
teacher
will gather the classes attention, asking them to get a laptop
from the school laptop cart.
2. The
teacher
will instruct the students to follow the link written on the
whiteboard. This will be the teacher made Lewis and Clark
website.
3. The
teacher
will show how to navigate the website and inform the students
that they cannot use notes for the website quiz.
4. The teacher will pass
out a worksheet where the students can keep track of their
correct quiz answers. The teacher will explain that this
assignment will not be graded, and it is for practice.
5. The
students
will complete the web quiz and then will have a class discussion
on their correct answers.
c. Closure-
To close the lesson the
teacher will explain the significance behind the Lewis and Clark
expedition. Then the class will have one final discussion on the
expedition, students will be encouraged to explain why they
think the expedition is important. The teacher will make sure
each student has a basic understanding of the expedition.
Students will be told to hold on to their notes to study for the
next test.
d. Adaptions-
Due to most of the
lesson being online and interactive, students interest should be
held. If I student has a hard time understanding the website the
teacher will be demonstrating directions on the projector to
assist. Much of the websites are also visual and textual, this
will help students with different learning styles and reading
abilities.
Evaluation:
The student must be able to provide their worksheet of
correct answers to the teacher as proof that they completed the
website quiz. This will determine that the student has a working
knowledge of both how to navigate the computer and of the Lewis
and Clark expedition.
