Lesson Topic or Theme: Visiting tourist attractions of New York City, NY
Lesson Objectives:
After completing this lesson, the students will be able to:
- Identify at least 7 landmarks/attractions in New York City
- Give at least 3 facts about each attraction
- Be able to identify NYC attractions by picture
- Be able to identify and understand the words tour & attraction

Procedure:
Introductory/Motivational Activity:
1. Class will start sitting on the carpet in a class discussion. "
Class today we will be learning a little bit about New York City.
Does anyone know anything about NYC, has anyone ever visited the city?"
(give students time to respond) . The teacher will the bring out a
book. The book is 'THIS IS NEW YORK by: Miroslay Sasek. The
teacher will read the book to the class, discussing each picture to
them. After the book is finished the teacher will talk about
the meaning of the vocabulary words Attraction and Tour/Tourist. Also the class will discuss any questions or comments they have about the book. Learning Activity:
1.Next
the class will be put into small groups of 2-3 students. As
a class we will head to the computer lab. Once there each group will
play an interactive tour game onlline. Students will be the tourists
learning about some New York City attractions by answering questions
based on facts about those attractions.
2. After each group is
finished the class will return to there seats. Still in their groups
they will get a picture of one attraction and a fact sheet that goes
with it. Each group will have to write down on their fact sheet what
the attraction is, and 3 facts about that attraction.
Closure:
1.
The student groups will next present one by one . Each group will stand
up and show their picture to the class. Next they will tell the class
what their attration is, and then each group member will present a fact
that they have learmed about this attraction.
Adaptations for Diverse Learners:
Students with special needs will be given extra time in completing the lesson, also extra help with the lesson as needed
Pictures will be used in the lesson making it easier for ELL Students.
Group work allows students who struggle to recieve peer help during the lesson.
Assessment:
The teacher will be walking around the room throughout the lesson to monitor student progress and assess their learning.
Also the students will be assed during their presentation of attraction and facts, based on how much they have learned.
