Unit Topic or Theme: Science
Grade: 4
Lesson Topic or Theme: Animals of the Rainforest
Lesson Objectives: Students should be able to complete the quiz after researching using the links and listening to their peers presentations on assigned animals.
Instructional Technique: Before the students take the quiz they have projects that they will have to complete and then show to the class. Each student will be assigned a different animal so the students become familiar with all different types of animals that live in the rainforest.
Instructional Materials: See worksheet; it will be filled out the night before the students take the quiz as homework.
Theoretical Perspective: This information is important because it teaches students about animals that do not live around them. Each student gets to research an animal and then show to the class what they learned about it. This lesson is fun for students because it is a lot less boring than a typical science lesson. It opens their eyes on how many type of animals really exist at the opposite side of the world.
Procedure:
A. To start this lesson I will go over animals that live in the rainforest with the students and we will explore the different species. Then, I will hand out the worksheet to the students that includes the websites I have provided on the website to help them with their research.
B. The first day of this lesson I will go over rainforest animals and other information on this topic. I will then assign a rainforest animal to each student and hand out the worksheet that they need to fill out for the next day. On the next day the students will present the information they gathered on their animal so their classmates learn about the other animals. After all of the students presented, I will pick a number of students that corresponds to the number of computers in the classroom to do the quiz online. While the students are taking the quiz on the computer the other students will be at their desks reading books about the rainforest and its animals that I will have signed out from the library. The students can either read in pairs or by themselves. When all of the students have taken the quiz we will come together as a class and discuss the quiz and everything they have learned throughout the lesson.
C. After all the students have taken the quiz the class will come to together to have a discussion. I will ask the students about the different species of animals that live in the rainforest and what they learned about them. We will also go over the quiz and talk about which questions were easy and which were harder and why. I will then ask the students if they enjoyed the lesson and if they would want to do another lesson in this way.
D. If the students are non-native speakers or have poor reading skills then an aid, if there is one available, or I will read the questions on the quiz to the students out loud.
E. There will be no homework to go along with this lesson.
Evaluation:
A.
Students should be able to complete the quiz after researching using the links and listening to their peers presentations on assigned animals.
If the students finish the quiz and do well on their presentations then I will know if the students understand the animals that they are learning about and how they survive in the rainforest. Also ,when we are having the group discussion after all the students take the quiz I will understand who actually learned the information from the lesson.
B.
I
do not have any concerns or questions about this lesson.
