Lesson Objectives: The student will be able to Navigate a website by themselves as well as gain factual information about seven different states in the United States.

Instructional Technique: Online Quiz- Independently or in Groups working together.

Instructional Materials: Computer lab for students to work on the quiz.

Theoretical Perspective: This content is important for students to learn facts about states in the United States. This benefits the students in learning more about what is surrounding them. This also allows students to use there fine motor skills having to work the website with the keyboard and mouse. The students will feel independent by being able to work the computer by themselves and allows you class to take a quiz in a different format other than a pencil and pen.

   Procedure:

A.   Introductory Activity (if applicable)

a.    The teacher will review/teach the information about the states with the students in class. Students should be able to know the states in America, know the capitals, as well as know a few facts about the states. Introduce the online quiz and explain how it is an interactive quiz based on facts about states in the United States. Then focus on the states given online: Alaska, Boston, Mississippi, Illinois, New York, Arizona,

B.   Step-by-step (descriptive outline)

a.    Teacher will explain the Online quiz to students (maybe have a handout prepared for students the steps)

b.    Students will go to the computer individually or in partners (teachers decision) and go to the website for exploring the United States learning facts

c.    Next, students will follow along with the website and learn to navigate and learn new information about these states that the students should retain.

C.   Closure

a.    To end this class lesson, students will receive a sticker that they have completed the fun facts through the United States successfully.

D.   Adaptations for different learners

a.    The teacher makes sure to inform the TA or AID in the classroom what is going to be the lesson plan for the day. This will allow the TA/ AID to get ahead with an understanding that they will need to supervise and help guide the students who struggle with reading, not much experience with computers, or any other problems that apply so the students can fully benefit from this lesson.

E.    Homework

a.    Not Applicable

   Evaluation:

A.   How/ when will you determine if you have met your objectives?

a.    Students will gain factual information about these seven different states in the United States.

b.    Students will also learn how to navigate on the computer and through a website on their own.

c.    Students will be able to come back to this website as a resource to use again.

The majority of the students in the classroom have met the objective to its entirety. The majority of the class are able to complete the quiz without much difficulty. The students could struggle with one or two questions or working with the website.

The teacher will evaluate the success of the student by walking around and observing how each individual student/pair of partners is working. This can help the teacher understand which students fully understand this lessons topic and which students haven’t fully grasped this concept and need some extra help/ review.

B.   Concerns or questions you have about teaching this lesson?

a.    A concern within this lesson is as the teacher how much knowledge the students will actually gain and retain from the website. You don’t want the student(s) to just click through the website and not take in the information from this lesson.
