Students will be able to discuss and brainstorm ideas regarding our solar system and planets.
Students will be able to understand and apply their knowledge when answering the online web questions.
Students will be able to gain more knowledge about planets after they answer questions correctly.
Instructional Techniques: Whole
class discussion, small group discussion, individual
assessment on computers.
Instructional Materials: Pencil,
paper, computers, whiteboards, markers
Theoretical Perspective: It's very
important for students to be able to identify the
planets in the solar system. By taking this quiz, the
students will be able to apply their newly gained
knowledge from the lesson and then also write down a new
fact they learned about each planet.
Procedure:
1) Introduction: To start the
lesson, we will have a whole class discussion about
space and our solar system. Students will brainstorm
ideas that they have regarding space, planets, and
details and theories that they know about some planets.
2) The students will then get into
small groups, and they will each read a book about our
solar system. In this book, there are facts about
planets, and a diagram of what our solar system looks
like and how the planets orbit around the sun.
3) Finally, the students will each
go up to the front and grab a laptop. From here, they
will take the quiz and follow along with a table to
record their answers and also record a new fact that
they learned about each correct answer.
Adaptations: For learners who
cannot look at a computer screen, there can be a
print-out quiz with external articles for students to
read and record facts about planets. Also, there can be
a list of brainstormed ideas that students came up with
for the discussion that can be turned into a hand-out
for students who are hard at seeing or hearing.
Evaluation: Students will be
assessed on their learning from the lesson in the online
quiz. They will be able to record what they get right
and wrong, as well as jot down a new fact on a planet.
