Internet Navigation Tutorial

1. To complete this activity (and those to follow), you will either need to have two windows open at the same time or to make a print-out of the instruction sheet.

• You can have as many windows open as you wish. Just select New Page under the File pull-down menu on the top left of the Navigator window. You will probably need to re-size the windows so you can have them side by side.
• To print, just select the print icon above.

2. Type in http://web66.coled.umn.edu

• Here you will find the home page for Web66. This is a project designed to facilitate the introduction of technology into K-12 schools.

3. Scroll and see what is available.

4. Select Mustang: A web Cruising Vehicle.

5. Now select the Go Menu. Notice that the page you are on is checked. Now select Web66 Home Page (the non-checked location). This will return you to the original home page. For each page you go to, there is a record of your activity stored under the Go Menu. You can use this to move from site to site.

6. Now press the Forward Button at the top left of navigator. This will return you to the Mustang page. You could also have used the Go Menu.

7. Select Sample Projects:Visit the Travel Agent

8. Here you will find links for teachers and students. Choose Communicate under teacher links.

9. Check things out. Select Web66's List of Schools.

10. You will find a map of the United States. Move your cursor over the map. You will see the cursor change to a hand which means that the states are active links. Choose a state (not Massachusetts).

11. Return to the Map. Use either the back button or the Go Menu.

12. Select Massachusetts and take a look around.

13. One last thing. If you find a site that you might want to return to, select Bookmarks at the top of the Navigator window and select Add. Now go back to your Bookmarks and you will notice that the site is saved.
