The Reading and Writing Center is neither a classroom nor a professor's office. The Reading and Writing Center is YOUR place to talk to us about your writing. So come with a cup of coffee or tea and your problems, your questions, your speculations, your discoveries, and your enthusiasms about writing. We will listen and then suggest and explain ways for you to take the next few steps. Every writer is different, and our individual attention will help you develop your abilities in a way that is best for you.
We help you with every step
We are not like a dry cleaners: you can't simply drop off your paper, have us revise it, and then pick it up. We won't do the work for you. But we will help you develop your abilities so that you will know how to write more effectively for school, for work, and for pleasure. In particular, we'll work with you to do the following:
We help with all types of writing
Whether you are working on an essay for a class, a scholarship or a graduate school application, your resume and cover letter, or that novel, play, poem, or screenplay, we can help. Our writing consultants have experience and training in teaching a wide variety of writing.
We help you as much as you want to be helped
Each session lasts 45 minutes and is free, and you can return as many times as you'd like. You can sign up for an appointment by using our online scheduling system, by calling (413) 572-5569, or by visiting us in Parenzo 218. We also offer scheduled drop-in hours in Ely Library.
