Michelle Maggio to head fiscal management for Academic Affairs

Michelle Maggio was appointed associate dean for fiscal management and budget planning for the division of Academic Affairs in January. She will work with the provost and VP of Academic Affairs, deans, and department chairs in preparing budgets based on department/college goals and the strategic plan of the University. In addition, she will review/monitor financial reports, develop procedures and controls related to fiscal issues, and provide support for all areas of the division.

Maggio holds a M.S. in taxation from the University at Albany, SUNY, and a B.S. in accounting from Alfred University. She is both a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Global Management Accountant.  Her professional experience includes employment with two of the Big Four public accounting firms, Price Waterhouse and Deloitte.  She has experience as a senior auditor for a major health insurance company as well as controller for a privately controlled group of corporations in Rochester, NY.

Hired in 2004 at Westfield State as an assistant professor in the Department of Economics and Management, she was instrumental in the development and approval of the Master of Science in accounting. Maggio has published two instructor’s manuals for introductory accounting textbooks and co-authored an annotated instructor’s guide for accounting. She has served as interim vice-president of Administration and Finance for one year and as chair of the Department of Economics and Management for two years. She has assisted Academic Affairs with budget work for the last two years and has served on numerous department and institutional search committees.
