Professional Development

Westfield State University is committed to providing each employee with the opportunity to develop their potential to the fullest.

To that end, every supervisor is encouraged to provide for the training and development of every member of their staff.

Professional Development

The university offers professional development workshops on a variety of topics at no cost to employees. Notices regarding scheduled training programs are sent via email. If you have questions regarding training programs, please call 413-572-8809.

Additionally, professional development opportunities may be available outside the university and employees may be eligible for applicable leave and/or attendance reimbursements as outlined in their collective bargaining agreements. Employees should discuss these opportunities with their supervisor or department head.

Continuing Education

Individuals who wish to further their education by taking college courses may do so at Westfield or another public college or university in Massachusetts through the Tuition Remission Program. Graduate and Continuing Education at Westfield State also offers noncredit courses.

All benefitted employees, including their spouse and dependent children, are eligible for tuition remission at the public institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth in the manner and to the extent permitted under applicable policies of the Department of Higher Education. Tuition charges are waived or reduced, while fees are incurred by the student. In most circumstances waivers are valid for all state community colleges, state colleges, and state universities. Exceptions are: University of Massachusetts Medical Center and the Massachusetts Law School at Andover.

Additional information and the request for a tuition waiver can be found here.

Faculty Center For Teaching and Learning

The Faculty Center, located in Parenzo Hall 215, promotes discussion of and reflection on our faculty's ideas and concerns about teaching, learning, scholarship, and the profession. The Center seeks to foster a community which celebrates both the diversity of individual fields of study and the unity of academic inquiry.
