Grade Level: 3

Lesson topic or theme: Visiting and learning about some of the East Coast States

Lesson Objectives: Students should be able to

-use there knowledge about what they know on clues given about states along the East Coast

Instructional Techniques:

-Before this class period students have already learned about each state

-Presentations by students of each state that was previously assigned.

-Experiment (interactive website)

-Group discussion

Instructional materials:

-interactive website

- A worksheet is given for students to write facts about what they have learned during the presentations.

Theoretical Perspective: It is important for students to learn historical facts of the states and helps them to understand where they are located on a map and what some states are famous for.

Procedure:

  1. Introductory Activity

            1. At the beginning of class we will go over what we have previously learned.

            2. Students will be presenting different states to the class as each group is presenting students will be writing down the facts they have learned. This will help them with the interactive website

    3. After the presentation students will begin the interactive website, working independently and using the notes they have taken during the presentations.

    4.  After everyone has completed the interactive website we will come back as a class and discuss the road trip. We will be asking the students new facts they have learned or facts they previously knew.

  1. Closure
    1. Students are able to identify states by clues given such as important facts that a state is known for.
    2. Students are able to tell each other facts about various places along the East Coast.
    3. Students are able to locate the States on a map.
  2. Adaptations for different learners
    1. Students are given extra time if needed on the interactive website.
    2. If students have trouble reading or understanding the interactive website teachers are available to help.
