Joshua Hettrick, Ed.D.
Interim Director for Residential Life

Joshua joined Westfield State as the Assistant Director for Housing in July 2008 and is now the Associate Director for Housing. Prior to his current role, Joshua was at Springfield College as the Assistant Director of Residence Life for four years. He initially arrived at Springfield College in 2002 where he served as a Resident Director for two years while he earned his Master of Psychology degree in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education. He began his career in residence life while a student at Stonehill College where he served as a resident assistant for three years and earned his Bachelor's degree in Communication and Computer Information Systems. Joshua completed his doctoral degree program at Johnson & Wales University in May 2012.

When he is not at work, Joshua enjoys spending as much time as possible with his wife Sabrina, their  son Aidan, and their daughter Kaylee.  His favorite activities include bowling, golf, video games, wearing the color orange, and not working on his dissertation anymore.

John Zocco, M.Ed
Interim Assistant Director

John started as a Residence Director at Westfield State University in 2011 and was promoted to Area Coordinator in 2017. John comes to Westfield after spending three years as an Area Coordinator at the University of New England in Biddeford, ME.

John earned his Masters of Education in Student Personnel Administration from Springfield College where he worked in the Residence Life Office at Springfield College. Before Springfield College he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Marketing from Assumption College. In his free time John enjoys working with and learning about new technology and his photography hobby. 

June Tanski
Administrative Assistant

June came to Westfield State University in the fall of 2012 from Gateway Regional High School/ School Based Health Center, where she worked as an Administrative Assistant/Office Manager.  June enjoys meeting and help the students, families, and staff here at Westfield State.  Each day brings a new and welcoming challenge.  When not at work, June enjoys spending time with her husband and their four children, quilting, painting and camping in Maine.

 

Dawn Whitehill, B.A.
Accountant

Dawn has been at Westfield State University since 2001. Dawn is a lifelong resident of Westfield and  an alum of Westfield State University. Dawn handles all of the day-to-day financial operations for both Residential Engagement and Housing Operations. She enjoys the daily interactions with the students and admires the campus community. Dawn is a firm believer that "If you love what you do, you will not work a day in your life!" In her spare time, Dawn is an active member of the Westfield business community

Karolina Zapal, M.F.A.
Residence Director of Dickinson Hall and Apartment Complex

Karolina Zapal came to Westfield State University in 2021 from Greenville, SC, where she worked as a Residential Life Coordinator at the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts & Humanities. Prior to that, she earned her MFA in Writing & Poetics from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, and served as an artist-in-residence at Greywood Arts in Killeagh, Ireland, Brashnar Creative Project in Skopje, North Macedonia, and Bridge Guard in Štúrovo, Slovakia. She's the author of two books, Polalka (Spuyten Duyvil Press) and Notes for Mid-Birth (Inside the Castle Press), an avid reader, traveler, and outdoor adventurer. She has a cat named Ollie, is a die-hard Survivor fan, and drinks way too much coffee. 

Sydney Maiden
Residence Director of Davis Hall 

Sydney comes to Westfield from sunny (and quite hot) Bakersfield, California. She did her undergraduate work at San Diego State University, receiving her Bachelors of Arts and Sciences in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Biology, Nutrition, and Africana Studies. Sydney has worked in various roles of Residential Life, most recently serving as the Assistant Residence Director at Elms College.   When she is off the clock, Sydney enjoys spending time with friends and family, cooking/baking  and listening to music. She is also an avid basketball fan, so you can always catch her watching a game! 

Mario Richards, B.A
Residence Director of Lammers Hall

Mario is originally from St Catherine Jamaica, but moved to Springfield Massachusetts in 2013. Mario attended college at Westfield State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English. While attending Westfield State, Mario was involved in several leadership opportunities including serving as an RA. Currently, Mario is persuing graduate studies for English Literature with hopes of someday becoming a English professor. Mario enjoys writing poetry, watching and playing sports, reading comics and watching anime. Mario's personal mantra is that "failure can be our greatest teacher with the right mindset."

Izzy Malvezzi, B.A.
Courtney Hall

Izzy is native to the Western Mass area and graduated from Westfield State in 2021 with a B.A. in History with a minor in English. During her time as an undergraduate student she worked as a Tour Guide, Resident Assistant, and worked in the Office of New Student Orientation as both an Orientation Leader and Assistant Office Manager. Outside of her work as a RD, Izzy is working towards her Masters of Library and Information Sciences through the University of Southern Mississippi with a focus on Youth Services. In her down time she enjoys reading, watching true crime documentaries, and anything related to theatre and musicals. Izzy is excited to continue helping students enjoy their time at Westfield State as much as she did!
