Westfield State panel observes National First-Generation Celebration Nov 8-9

In recognition of National First-Generation Celebration Day, the University’s new First-Gen Working Group is hosting two events.

On Monday, Nov. 8, an alumni panel of first-generation college graduates shared their stories and insights. Among those presenting were:

·         Lezlie Braxton Campbell, director of organizing strategy-Mass, Leadership for Educational Equity

·         Derek Estrella ’19, senior community outreach counselor, Holyoke Community College

·         Amanda Marte, director of young parent support, Children’s Friends & Family Services

Today, Tuesday, Nov. 9, a First-Generation Faculty & Staff Panel will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Scanlon Hall’s Loughman Living Room. Among those scheduled to participate are:

·         Christina Beaubien, Ph.D., visiting assistant professor, language and culture studies

·         Brian Chen, Ph.D., associate professor of English 

·         Christian DeJesus, admission counselor, Admissions 

·         Giselle Frechette, associate director, Career Center 

·         Princy Mennella, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology
