S.A.I.L- The Student Perspective

Greetings everyone!

My name is Lorenze Beltran and I am the Student Coordinator of Communications here at Westfield State New Student Orientation! Today I am going to be talking about SAIL, otherwise known as the department of Student Activities, Involvement, and Leadership.

This department is comprised of 2 team leaders, 4 student programmers, and volunteers. This office on campus provides the events that your students will be participating in during the school year! From BBQ Block Parties to Haunted houses, NYC Trips to Ice Skating, we provide a wide variety of events for your student to immerse themselves in and meet new people.

For students who don’t like big party-like events, we have calming paint nights. For musically inclined students, we have Open Mic Nights where students can sing, play instruments, read poetry, or even do Stand Up Comedy!

Most of this department is run by Students themselves, so the events we create are all about student life, learning, and diversity and inclusion. We want EVERYONE to feel welcome here at Westfield State University, and we do that by running not only student activity events, but events that immerse those into cultures they may not have had much interaction with! We sponsor a lor of Black History Month events, the Month Appreciating Women, and much more.

Aside from the technical things, let me give you a more personal view on sail.

Here is a video I made about SAIL talking about my personal experiences and what it has done for me including examples of the events we host on campus!

Thanks for reading!

Lorenze Beltran
