Club and Intramural Sports

Hello everyone!

I am Lorenze Beltran, Student Coordinator of Communications for the New Student Orientation program and I am also a senior nursing major!

More importantly, for this blog post, I am a captain of the Club Ultimate Frisbee team here at Westfield State!

Club sports are the in between of intramurals and the DIII Athletic teams! These teams do receive funding, but are managed by the Captains themselves and not formal coaches. This is usually due to other schools in the immediate area not having their own teams. For example, the Westfield State Ultimate Frisbee team usually travels to Rhode Island to go against schools there, or even New Hampshire! Jerseys are provided and there is no direct cost for you to join!

I love club sports because they allow me to be a part of team as well as have ample time to focus on school!

Hello Champions!

My name is Austin Morgan and I am the Orientation Leader for Team 15 for this years New Student Orientation. I am super excited to meet everyone this fall! Aside from being an Orientation Leader, I also am involved with a few different intramural sports here on campus.

To say that Intramural sports on campus are fun would be an understatement.
Westfield State offers over ten different men’s, women’s, and even coed sports for
people with varied experiences. If you have played a sport your whole life or if
you’ve never played it before, intramurals offer you the opportunity to learn and
compete with and or against friends.

Not only are these activities great for helping everyone make friends, it also
allows you to stay active while doing something fun. From personal experience, I
went into college fully believing that I would never be able to play organized
sports again and would have to just watch them on campus. Then I found out about
intramurals, I found that I was able to once again be on the field playing the games
that I love without having to worry about a busy practice schedule or getting
myself hurt.

I played both intramural soccer and flag football, these two activities
allowed me to make friends that I still talk to over the summer and the sports
themselves give me something to look forward to when finals are coming up or
when classes are getting harder.

So if you’re looking for something that makes you friends, keeps you active,
and brings joy to those who play, sign up for an intramural sport on campus. We’ll
be happy to have you!
