Student Organizations

Student National Education Association

We welcome all education majors and secondary education teacher licensure students to join the Student National Education Association (SNEA)! We are a student club on campus that offers a variety of workshops, professional development opportunities, and community outreach activities and projects. SNEA is the local student chapter of the National Education Association (NEA), which is the largest educational professional association in the country. We are also affiliated with the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA). Under the guidance of our mentors, Dr. Stephanie Grimaldi, Associate Professor of Education, and Dr. Lyndsey Nunes, Coordinator of Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment (ICE), SNEA provides members with the opportunity to be involved in their future profession of teaching early in their university careers. Below is a listing of some SNEA activities and opportunities that SNEA membership affords its members.

  • SNEA provides leadership development opportunities.
  • SNEA hosts Read Across Westfield annually.
  • SNEA holds fundraisers for Relay for Life.
  • SNEA sponsors MTA Future Teacher Conferences.

Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society

Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) is an international honor society in Education. It is committed to recognizing excellence in those students who are preparing to be tomorrow’s teachers. KDP fosters mutual cooperation, support, and professional growth for education professionals.

The Iota Iota chapter of KDP was installed at Westfield State University in 1960. Since then the chapter has recognized eligible undergraduate candidates based on grade point average (minimum of 3.3/4.0), junior or senior status, and candidates’ service to professional ideals and community service. The motto of KDP is: “So to Serve, So to Teach, So to Live.”  The chapter elects and initiates an executive board each year. KDP hosts an annual initiation brunch during the spring semester. This ceremony honors both new and current members and their families.

Kappa Delta Pi holds fundraisers for charitable organizations as well as local events for children. KDP also provides tutoring programs, donates books to schools in Costa Rica and Puerto Rico, and provides professional development workshops for those entering the teaching profession.

Dr. Megan Kennedy, Associate Professor of Education, is the faculty sponsor for KDP.  For more information about KDP, contact Dr. Kennedy by email at mkennedy@westfield.ma.edu. To contact the Westfield chapter of KDP, send an email to kappadeltapiwsc@gmail.com.
