WESTFIELD, Mass.—Westfield State University has again earned recognition as one of Massachusetts’ top public universities according to U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges 2022” ranking list, which was released today, Sept. 13, 2021.

Westfield State is tied for highest-ranking public university in New England for the second year in a row. Additionally, after jumping five spots over last year, Westfield State is now ranked 85th among 171 institutions in the “Regional Universities–North.” It is ranked ahead of its peer Massachusetts state universities in that category, as well as among the U.S. News “Top Public Schools” list, where it placed #24, and the “Best Value Schools, among the regional universities, placing 72nd.

The annual rankings underscore Westfield State’s commitment to accessibility, affordability, and intentional outcomes. According to the publication, numerous factors determined the ranking: a peer assessment, retention and graduation rates, faculty resources, class sizes, student/faculty ratio, student selectivity, and the alumni-giving rate.

“We are thankful for this noteworthy recognition,” said Westfield State President Linda Thompson, DrPH, MPH, RN, FAAN. “At Westfield State, we meet students’ needs by taking a humanistic approach to providing an inclusive, mindful, and supportive learning environment for a comprehensive educational experience that is accessible and affordable.”
