Lecturer, Trombone, Tuba, Euphonium, Jazz History B.M., University of Massachusetts Private study: Per Brevig - Metropolitan Opera Orchestra; John Swallow - New York Brass Quintet, New York City Ballet    Tim Atherton is an active free-lance trombonist and educator.  He is a Senior Lecturer in music at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. At Westfield State University he is a lecturer of Low Brass and History of Jazz. Over the years he has mentored students who have become highly regarded professional instrumentalists and music educators. In 2008 he was a recipient of the Student Government Association Outstanding Professor Award. He has served as an adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor for festival jazz ensembles throughout New England. Mr. Atherton has performed, recorded and toured nationally and internationally.  His many associations over the years include: Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, The Silk Road Project with Yo-Yo Ma, Gunther Schuller, Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Berkshire Symphony Orchestra, Massachusetts Wind Orchestra, New England Jazz Ensemble, Amherst Jazz Orchestra and the Jeff Holmes Big Band. Among his many recordings, Mr. Atherton is heard on four current CD publications: The New England Jazz Ensemble Live and It’s A Grand Night For Swinging; New England Jazz Ensemble, Monk, Duke & Mingus; The Steve Sonntag Dave Shapiro Sextet, Chilling Winds; The Massachusetts Wind Orchestra. In addition to his musical pursuits, Tim is an avid cyclist, skier, and traveler.
