LEAD Scholars Program Application Requirements

Program and Application Requirements

The Westfield State University application offers every prospective student the opportunity to indicate an interest in the LEAD Scholars Program, formerly known as the Urban Education Program, by checking “yes” on Special Admission Opportunities.

LEAD Scholars Program Application Requirements:

The application process for the LEAD Scholars Program is unique. First, if an applicant wants to apply for the LEAD Scholars Program they must indicate on their WSU application that they want to be part of the LEAD Scholars Program. Applicants select a checkbox under the admissions opportunity section on the WSU application, the Common APP, or paper application. In addition, applicants must submit two letters of recommendation with one from a high school guidance counselor. A LEAD Scholars Program staff member will review the applicants file which includes an assessment of academic background, leadership potential, participation in extracurricular and leadership activities and evidence of self-motivation, maturity and other special aptitudes or talents.

If an applicant is selected, they will be invited to an interview session. The interview is required of all applicants, and allows us to ask questions about your leadership, academic excellence, and personal goals for your college journey. Acceptance is based on factors including academic performance, letters of recommendation, and academic and leadership potential. Satisfying the minimum requirements to WSU does not guarantee acceptance into the Summer Bridge Program.

Enrollment in the LEAD Scholars Program is very competitive (75 seat) and limited to those individuals whom we consider ready and willing to meet the challenges, responsibilities and rigors of college.

After the interview, the LEAD Scholars Program considers prospective students, who must then proceed through the following steps:

  • Return the Admission Enrollment Form.
  • Make your admission deposit- $300 for residential and $150 if commuting. You can make your deposit here.
  • Complete WSU Health Forms. Click here for details about required health forms and eligibility.
  • Complete the Summer Bridge Intake Form.
  • All Summer Bridge Program forms must be completed June 14, 2024.

Health Forms

IF YOU DO NOT SUBMIT COMPLETED WSU STUDENT HEALTH FORMS, PROOF OF IMMUNIZATIONS/WAIVER, AND DO NOT HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE YOU CANNOT MATRICULATE IN THE FALL. Due to the special nature of the Summer Bridge Program, all residential students are required to have meningitis vaccine or submit a signed meningitis waiver form.
