The Office of the Registrar may require additional documents to be submitted or actions to be completed during the Reenrollment process. It is the responsibility of the student to provide all required documents, clear any outstanding holds, and complete all actions as requested by the Office of the Registrar for Reenrollment to WSU. Failure to complete all requirements prior to the deadline for each semester will result in the denial of your Reenrollment for that semester.

Applications can take up to ten business days to be reviewed and processed. If additional information is required, it may take longer.

Reenrollment FAQ

Undergraduate Reenrollment Policy

Students who leave Westfield State University because of academic failure are reenrolled through the Office of the Registrar. Eligibility to return is determined by the Chair of the Committee on Academic Standing. In order to return, students must take enough courses at another accredited college to raise their cumulative quality point average to the level required for the number of credits they have attempted (see Academic Standing):

Students who withdraw from the university in good academic, financial and disciplinary standing also may be reenrolled through the Office of the Registrar depending upon their choice of major, either former or new, and the availability of space. Students absent five years or more will be subject to current course and other applicable requirements for their intended major, former or new, as well as current Common Core requirements, and space availability, as determined by the Registrar.

Students who have been withdrawn or dismissed by the University for disciplinary, financial, or other non-academic reasons may not re-enter until the reenrollment conditions established at the time of withdrawal have been met.

Students who have been involuntarily withdrawn for medical reasons, for either physical or mental health reasons, may be required to provide documentation from appropriate medical or mental health personnel to substantiate the student’s readiness to return to active study at the university (see full policy under the Student Handbook by clicking here).

Students who are seeking reenrollment should inform the Office of the Registrar as early as possible prior to their return in order to facilitate course placement.

Reenrollment Policy

Is the Undergraduate Reenrollment Application for you?

The Undergraduate Reenrollment Application is intended for inactive students who previously attended WSU at the undergraduate level, have been separated from the university, and are seeking to return to complete an in-progress bachelor’s or second bachelor’s degree.

Students who are interested in beginning a bachelors, second bachelor’s or a master’s program should not complete this application.

Students who have not previously attended WSU should contact Admissions using the appropriate office below:

Holds:

All outstanding holds must be cleared before a Reenrollment Application can be processed. Students with holds on their account must contact the appropriate office to resolve the hold(s).

It is the responsibility of the student to notify the Office of the Registrar once all holds have been cleared by emailing reenrollment@westfield.ma.edu in order to resume the Reenrollment process.

Students who are unsure whether a hold exists on their account should contact the Office of the Registrar at registrar@westfield.ma.edu or (413) 579-3200.

Applications with outstanding holds will remain in a “pending” status until all holds have been cleared and the Office of the Registrar has been notified. Failure to clear all holds by the application deadline for the intended semester will result in denial of Reenrollment for that semester. A new application will be required for a future semester if the student wishes to return.

Submitting Transcripts:

Students who have taken courses at another accredited institution since leaving WSU must submit their Official Transcripts of all college-level coursework in one of the following ways:

  • Electronically: registrar@westfield.ma.edu
  • Mail: Westfield State University,

Office of the Registrar – Transcript

    PO Box 1630577 Western Ave.

    Westfield, MA 01086

It is the responsibility of the student to inform the Office of the Registrar that they have submitted a transcript for Reenrollment purposes by emailing reenrollment@westfield.ma.edu.

Physical transcripts are only considered official only if they are received in the original sealed, unopened envelope  from the issuing institution. Electronic transcripts are considered official only if they are sent directly from the issuing institution or through an approved transcript service (e.g., National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment).

Physical transcripts will not be accepted if the original seal has been broken. Electronic transcripts will not be accepted if they have been sent to another party (including the student) and then forwarded to the university.

Returning after 5+ years:

Massachusetts state regulations require that students who have been separated from the university for five or more years are responsible for rebuilding their student file before Reenrollment can be approved.

If file rebuilding is required, students will be notified by the Office of the Registrar after their application has been reviewed. Instructions outlining required documentation and submission procedures will be provided at that time.

Documentation Required for File Rebuilding:

(Additional documentation may be required)

  •  Proof of Residency Form (form will be provided after application review)
  • Official high school transcript OR official transcript showing the completion of an associate degree
  • Official transcript(s) for all college-level coursework from an accredited institution (if applicable)

Curriculum Update Notice: Students who have been absent from WSU for five or more years are subject to curriculum updates. Degree requirements may change based on the program of study.

Returning after Academic Dismissal:

Students who have been academically dismissed must meet specific conditions before Reenrollment can be considered. These conditions are outlined in the Academic Dismissal Letter previously issued to the student or may be found in the University Catalog under “Academic Policies” and the “Reenrollment” section:

https://catalog.westfield.ma.edu/index.php

After the Reenrollment Application has been reviewed, the Office of the Registrar will request submission of an official transcript for any college-level coursework completed at an accredited institution since separation from WSU. The Reenrollment Application cannot be processed until all required transcripts have been received.

Once received, the Office of the Registrar will review the transcript(s) and determine the student’s eligibility to return.

Official transcripts may be submitted electronically to registrar@westfield.ma.edu or by mail to the following address:

Academic Advising & Building a Schedule After Reenrollment:

Within two weeks of Reenrollment, students will receive communication from an Academic Advisor in the Office of Academic Advising & Transfer Transition to their WSU email. Students are expected to respond to this communication and complete the required questionnaire in a timely manner in order to schedule an advising appointment.

Advising appointments are required to review academic plans, discuss course selection for the upcoming semester, and obtain the registration PIN for the appropriate term.

Additional information regarding advising for reenrolling students is available at the following link: https://www.westfield.ma.edu/academics/academic-support/academic-advising-and-transfer-transition/transfer-student-advising
