First-year Student Advising

Welcome to the Nest!

Congratulations on your acceptance and welcome to Westfield State University!

In the Office of Academic Advising, we want to introduce you to the academic support and resources our university has to offer. Our office is here to guide you through the advising process to ensure that you have all the information necessary to successfully transition as a Westfield State University student. Our office will be reaching out to you regarding your classes for the upcoming semester. Our goal is to set you up for success starting with your first semester at Westfield State University. As part of that process, we will be sure to place you into the appropriate courses for your common core, major, or areas of interest.

Incoming first-year students will have the opportunity to create their wish list in preparation for course registration via the New Student Advising Questionnaire.

It is important for incoming students to complete the New Student Advising Questionnaire as soon as possible because the preferences will be considered when building the first semester schedule.

The intent of the questionnaire is to collect preferences—or generate a wish list, and Academic Advising will do its best to honor these request. Some preferences may not be honored for various reasons including, but not limited to: academic programs recommend specific course sequences, major requirements or restrictions, prerequisites, remaining course availability, and limited days and times of course offerings. Additionally, schedules are subject to change until Friday, January 13, 2023.

After the first semester, students will build their remaining course schedules and make arrangements to meet with their assigned major advisor(s).

If there are questions about the advising process, please reach out to   We are available Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
