First-year Student Advising

Welcome to the Nest!

Congratulations on your acceptance and welcome to Westfield State University!

In the Office of Academic Advising, we want to introduce you to the academic support and resources our university has to offer. Our office is here to guide you through the advising process to ensure that you have all the information necessary to successfully transition as a Westfield State University student.

Incoming first-year students will have the opportunity to create their wish list in preparation for course registration via the New Student Advising Questionnaire.

Academic Advising will do its best to honor preferences. Some preferences may not be honored for various reasons including, but not limited to: major specific course sequences, major requirements or restrictions, prerequisites, remaining course availability, and limited days and times of course offerings.

Note: Schedules are subject to change until Friday, August 11, 2023.

After the first semester, students will build their remaining course schedules and make arrangements to meet with their assigned major advisor(s).

If there are questions about the advising process, please reach out to advising@westfield.ma.edu.

New First-Year Student Update

We are starting the new student advising and course registration process. In preparation of selecting fall 2023 classes, the Office of Academic Advising is excited to help build fall 2023 class schedules.

It is important for incoming first-year students to complete the New Student Advising Questionnaire as soon as possible because preferences will be considered when building class schedules. The latest New Student Advising Questionnaire will be emailed to Fall 2023 entrants following the May 1 deposit deadline. The questionnaire deadline is Friday, June 23, 2023 at 4:30pm EST.

Please note that you are required to set up your Westfield State account, including your @westfield.ma.edu email to access the questionnaire. If you are experiencing any technical difficulties, contact the Technology Support Desk.

If you have questions about the incoming first-year advising process, email us at advising@westfield.ma.edu.

For incoming transfer students, please review your welcome packet regarding next steps and visit our Transfer Student Advising page.
